TNA Exclusive Interview: Mr Anderson – I can't wait to bring our show back to Ireland!
TNA/Impact Wrestling star Ken Anderson has achieved a great deal in his relatively sort time with the company. He has held the world title and participated in many of the organisations most popular matches and amassed a very loyal fan base along the way. In the lead up to the HardCore Justice PPV Running The Ropes Phil Allely was fortunate enough to chat to Anderson about his career to date, the upcoming UK/Ireland tour and his old friend Austin Aries (who had just raised the TNA Heavyweight Gold).
Hi Ken, great to speak to you again. Can we kick off with you thoughts on the Bound For Glory series of matches?
'Yeah Phil. I think they are exciting, we all have to up our game during them and of course we all want to get that title shot. I know we all work hard out there (in the ring), but for this kind of match, you have to work even harder, you know up your game.'
One guy you seem to always have a good match is Rob Van Dam. Why is that?
'Well RVD is one of those guys who is deceptively big. There are many of us who fans will say oh you look bigger on TV. Not him, the guy is like a tank, it is tough to have a game plan when you face Rob. I do think we gel well though and we both know what we can get out of the other.'
You will be a part of the UK/Ireland Tour in January 2013. Is it true the roster always look forward to these tours?
'Indeed it is true. These tours are exciting for us as much as they are the fans. In the states our fans are kind of spoilt, they see us any time they want. In the UK or Ireland (and last tour Europe) the fans only get to see us once a year. And we only have a few dates, so not every town gets to see us. That means we go out there and put on the best show we can, for those people who made the effort to come see us. '
The Lockdown cage will feature on each card. Do you think you guys will know prior to the tour who may have to enter the cage to fight?
'Well Phil as a professional wrestling business I have to say that odds are we will not know til just before the bell rings. I am happy with that as I don;t mind entering a structure that can cause me pain or make me bleed. I am a fight not flight kind of guy, so I will be ready for it.'
I am as you know form Ireland Ken, have you fond memories of your last trip to the Emerald Isle?
'I do Phil. Now I'm not saying this because I am talking to you (laughs), but Ireland is always a favourite place to visit by us all. It is always talked about by the boys in the locker room. Last time I was there the crowd were insane. I hope we get the same sot of reaction this time around too. The venue (The National Stadium, Dublin) is perfect for our product, it is just right for us. The fans were packed in there and the atmosphere was right on the money too. When you cram fans that crazy in a building and have our guys talking trash to them, you know you are in for a special night. I think the Irish fans love to see a fight and that is what we will bring them.'
One of Ireland's best known sons in the world of wrestling is Dave 'Fit' Finlay. Did you ever cross paths with him?
'Oh yeah I am a huge fan of his. He helped me tremendously when I was starting out. I still watch his matches today and use him for reference a lot. He is one tough guy too, a genuine bad ass (laughs). He can still go too, I'd say he is one of the best representatives for our business as a whole. If he was available he would make a great addition to our roster.'
Austin Aries winning the world title has shaken up the title picture. What did you think when he beat Bobby Roode for the belt?
'Well Phil for me it was something to be proud of. We didn't necessarily start off together, but we did spend a lot of time on the road (with Daivari, ODB too). We all would drive everywhere, for little or no money and we did that for years, so I know the guy very well. We all cut our teeth together and I know all the people said he was too small and would never win a major belt. But when he came here (TNA) , he worked hard and has earned everyone's respect. You have to give him credit for that'.
Finally Ken would you like to face Austin for the World Title somewhere down the line?
'I would love to face him. We actually just did have a match last weekend at a house show. The first time in almost eight years. It brought back loads of memories and whilst we have changed a lot, the magic was there. It would be great to do it on TV and show the fans everywhere what we can do.'

Mr Anderson Interview HIghlights
Mr. Anderson joined Washington Redskins defensive end Adam Carriker and Chuck Carroll on this week's "4th & Pain"—the only pro wrestling show hosted by an NFL player. More information on the show is available at 4thandpain.com. Highlights from the interview are as follows:
Is he still happy in pro wrestling?: "I really am. And I think I've been reinvigorated. I took some time off a few months back... I took about four months off and took care of some personal things and just cleared my head. I've been in the business now for 13 years and was part of that major wrestling corporation for six or seven years. And the fact that we don't have an offseason and we go 52 weeks each year--that's what a lot of people don't realize--it does take its toll on your body, takes its toll on your mind. I will say that it's gone in waves. I've had some big ups in my career and I've had some lows. But overall I'm happy with every single thing I've done. I'm happy with the mistakes that I've made because I've learned from those mistake. I'm very happy with our company right now and the direction that it's going. I hope our fans are as excited about it as we are."
How he got the idea to announce his name twice: "The microphone fun and two-time name announcing began in high school when he was tasked with creating a fake radio advertisement for invisible underwear. No, we're not making this up."
The teacher encouraged him to get into radio and shortly there after he began announcing for the school's basketball games. It was there he would "add a little flare" and say the last names of the players twice.
Flash forward 15 years later he was in Ohio Valley Wrestling and it happened . . .
"I'm down at OVW and Paul Heyman suggested to me that I go out to the ring and announce myself," Anderson told the 4th & Pain crew. "And that was just something… I threw in the last Anderson, the second Anderson and I came I came back through the curtain everybody was like, 'That was awesome when you said your last name twice.' And it turned out that was what it took to get me to the dance. It seems so stupid, but just saying my last name twice… It's just those little things. "
When Anderson's wrestling days are over he will have a future as a journalist. He asked Adam a question he'd never been asked in the three years he's been with the Redskins. The answer, for Redskins fans, was shocking!

Ken Anderson Conference Call Highlights

Former TNA World Heavyweight Champion Mr Anderson is poised to face the always exciting Jeff hardy at the company’s Sacrifice PPV this weekend (shown on Challenge on Wednesday). Always outspoken and controversial Anderson had some very interesting things to say about his time in TNA and with former company the WWE.
With two TNA world title runs under his belt Anderson has been on top and at times under used in Dixie Carter’s promotion. However his character is always one that demands attention when he appears live, or on TV.
‘Character wise I get to do what and say all the things that people normally want to do and say, but would get I in trouble for. You know it’s like most actors who excel at a role, they are really just good at playing themselves.’ He said.
Anderson has a reputation for being awkward in the ring and was reported to have been responsible for injuring some top star in the WWE during his tenure there. Ken elaborated on that slightly.
‘I have worked with some of the industries most respected figures. Undertaker has been a great influence to me in my career. He chose to work with me and told me to not worry about what a**holes say and just keep being yourself, do what you are doing. I did end up in the ring with some people who did think that I was being difficult, but I got on with it.’
TNA’s recent decision to put new talent on TV was also a subject Anderson commented on.
‘It’s always something I have been behind, this kind of idea came from Paul Heyman. The idea of developing new stars and the fact that everybody should be chasing the title. He did that at OVW (WWE Developmental Promotion Ohio Valley Wrestling). History has always shown there to be only a couple of guys after the belt. But here (TNA) we have more options and the possibilities are endless. It can open up tons of avenues and give us options for entertainment we have not had yet.’
Having worked for the two big US wrestling promotions Ken is the perfect guy to compare conditions working there.
‘From a logistical point of view both companies are roughly the same. Hotels, accommodation etc. all kind of work the same way. The recent TNA International tour I was on was one of my toughest though. It wasn’t that long a tour, maybe 7 or 8 shows, but there was an emotional, physical and mental drain on us all. We had a lot of travelling and not a lot of downtime. The shows were fantastic though, the crowds were great, I specifically remember the ones in England and Ireland. They were insane and I can’t wait to head back there. The most I believe I ever did overseas was a 21 day tour, I think we did 19 shows during that one, it was tough.’
Renowned for his use of the microphone Anderson seems to relish having more creative input in his character now in TNA.
‘I have got a little more freedom creatively now and that’s from the beginning. I was given bullet points (during promos) and if I didn’t feel it I was pretty much free to change it. I went out one night (talking about Jeff Hardy) and I came up with the line about Anderson’s A**holes. It was an on the fly retaliation to Hardy calling his fans Creatures of the Night. But it stuck, the fans chanted “we are a**holes” and (then head writer) Vince Russo started adding it in to my notes. A lot of times in wrestling it is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. I will have a picture in my head of what will work, but its hard to explain, so you do it and if it works great, if not you apologise and say it was a one off thing. I like to take a chance and believe it works.

Mr Anderson Interview Highlights
TNA's Mr. Anderson spoke with The Dover Post this week to promote TNA's July 23rd show at the Delaware State Fair. Here are some highlights:
Q What are some of the behind the scenes stuff that we as viewers don’t see?
A It’s a two-hour show every week, and they get to see us for five to ten minutes. If you get a 15-minute segment on TV that’s a long segment because we have such a long roster. So they think you have it made. They don’t see that we do three non-TV events a week. I’ll get home, wash all my clothes, re-pack, and go out for a really, long loop. Then we do two TV shows and then we’re traveling, we drive ourselves from city to city. If we’re in Milwaukee and then Chicago the next night, we have to drive after the show to Chicago. And we have to find a gym, and a place to tan, and make sure we’re eating properly, and it’s 11 at night and nothing healthy’s open. Those are the things that people don’t see that we do. A lot of times we work 16 to 18 hour days, and don’t think twice about it. For normal people, 12 is pushing it. A lot of people work 8 hours shifts and go home. I always go back and think this beats the hell out of every job I’ve ever had.
Q Guys like Ric Flair have had careers for decades now. How long would you like to keep at it?
A If I’m still doing this five years from now, please, just shoot me. I love the wrestling business, I love entertaining people, but it doesn’t define me. And for people who are defined by this, that’s fine. I don’t judge them or look down on them, but it’s not for me. After 13 years of taking abuse I have aches and pains, and my wife calls me the old man a lot — more than I would like for her to call me. But I know that I can’t do this forever.
Q What would you like to do in the future?
A “E.T.” was the first movie I ever saw in the theater, and I remember looking at my mom and asking, “How does somebody do that? I want to be Elliott.” It just so happens to be that I live in the greatest country in the world where you can do anything you want. And if you want to be an actor and you work hard at it, you can do that. I’d like to transition into movies, TV, maybe some behind-the-scenes stuff here at TNA, or as a commentator. Eventually, my plan is to move to Wyoming on a big place of land and hunt, and fish, and spend time with my family and travel, and do some charity work.

Sting Reclaims TNA Title
Sting reclaims TNA Championship and fulfils Angle’s Prediction!

It’s rare to see a major wrestling title change hands on free TV, but this past week on Impact Wrestling (shown in the UK last night on Challenge) that very thing occurred, as former World Champion Sting reclaimed his prized World Heavyweight Gold from Immortal’s henchman Mr Anderson. Their physical and pretty evenly paced encounter was made possible after a number of TNA’s top names gave ‘The (Joker faced) Stinger’ the assist. Throughout the two hour programme a number of Sting’s ‘Clown Minions’ (Fortune and later Kurt Angle) took out Immortal members Scott Steiner, Jeff Jarrett, Abyss, Gunner and Bully Ray, to give the veteran fan favourite a fair crack at the belt. Anderson's Scorpion Death Lock and Sting's enthusiastic approach (including a mic check) all helped too, the end coming as a ref bump allowed Angle's clown to erase Bully Ray's interference and allow Sting to nail Anderson for the three count.
In a recent interview with Sun Sport’s Phil Allely, Kurt Angle seemed to predict that he would be the man facing Sting for the gold on the upcoming Maximum Impact IV tour of the UK and now he just may be (or vice versa!). Angle as per his win over Jeff Jarrett at Slammiversary is now the number one contender for the gold and will face new champion Sting for the title at the upcoming Hardcore Justice Pay-Per-View.
“Yeah having a guy like Sting spearhead this tour is a big deal all round. I was so pleased to hear him mentioned for the shows. You know he never did tour much and it has been over a decade since he was here. So this is major news and I’m especially happy as I get to join him on this one. I’d love to face him on the shows, in fact it would make perfect sense to do just that. Us two headlining would be the icing on the cake, he is one of the top guys of all time and he’s in the best shape he has been in years, both of us at our peak physically would be intense. Yeah I’m hoping that’s the case, though we do have so much talent here in TNA, the guys will be fighting to get a post on this tour. We intend to bring the best over here and put on the quality of shows you become used to.” Said an enthusiastic Angle, whilst in the UK to promote the upcoming tour.

TNA DVD Review - Genesis 2011
TNA Genesis 2011 DVD Review

Genesis was TNA’s first PPV offering of 2011 and now we can all enjoy it at home with this new DVD release version of the event. So what makes it worth purchasing?
Kicking things off Kazarian (representing Immortal & Fortune) took on fellow high flyer and risk-taker Jay Lethal in an entertaining and dangerous X Division Title scrap.
Next up the two ladies who rank high in the rejuvenated Knockouts Division Mickie James and Madison Rayne faced off for Rayne’s cherished women’s singles strap. The talented James was more than able to carry the ever-improving Rayne to a great bout.
Anytime the two best combos in the wrestling business (in this writers opinion) meet in the ring it is a special thing, throwing the TNA World Tag Team belts into the mix make that even more special. Tag Champs the Motor City Machineguns against Beer Money had so many high spots it’s hard to pick them out. Sabin/Shelley and Roode/Storm blend together so well they make pure wrestling poetry when they meet.
The most decorated tag team in wrestling (Team 3D) continued their implosion as Brothers Ray and Devon took their annoyance out on their (storyline) sibling. The arena and ringside area became a war zone for this encounter, both not wanting to give up and unleash much pain on the other.
AJ Styles being genuinely injured led to Abyss taking his place against Television Champion Douglas Williams.
The following encounter was shaded in secrecy and suspense from the get go, former TNA Heavyweight Champion Rob Van Dam was about to face a handpicked opponent by Immortal’s Eric Bischoff. When it was stated that RVD was going to get Hardy, (of course World Champ Jeff Hardy was off the card) we thought we knew what was coming, but what we got was his brother and former WWE superstar Matt Hardy (sporting a new look). This was a wonderfully heated pairing, both men have faced each other before and both have something to prove as former champ and TNA new boy respectively.
Jeff Jarrett and the returning Kurt Angle put forth a vicious at times MMA challenge brawl next, the pair exchanging holds, moves, offensive and defensive holds. Angle even bladed to pump up the adrenaline.
The main event was designed to determine the number one contender for Jeff Hardy’s World Heavyweight Championship. Mr Anderson (fresh off his enforced concussion based sabbatical) squaring off against the hugely imposing Matt Morgan. Anderson was on fine form and showed no signs of his recent injuries.
This was also the night that Mr Anderson saw his Title dreams come true, yes there is an impromptu World Heavyweight Title match here as well.
Genesis was a superb opener in TNA’s 2011 PPV assault and one that proved that the company do have a great product and roster on hand to get it over. This DVD is an great way to remember how the company kicked off the year.

DVD Review - TNA Final Resolution 2010

2010 had been a year of ups and downs with TNA, there had been many changes to the product and the behind the scenes moves and shakes have seen such people as Hulk Hogan, Eric Bischoff, RVD, Jeff Hardy and Ric Flair join the array of talent that the company has on hand. Final Resolution was TNA’s best shot at ending the year on a high and to a degree it did just that.
Opening things of were tag teams Beer Money and Ink Inc, Storm and Roode proved once again how integral they are to the TNA product by raising the game of their opponents Moore and Neal. The in-ring action was well paced and showed both teams to their best, Neal especially displaying much improved ability and psychology than before.
With the addition of Mickie James and return of Tara to the fold the once mighty Knockouts division was back on track once more. James and Tara adding their brutal and exciting Falls Count Anywhere scrap to their spate of quality encounters. As cat fights go this was a blinder, both ladies going all out to beat each other about the ring, ringside area and anywhere else they could.
Next up TNA newcomer Robbie E defended his X Division gold against Jay Lethal, with E’s good lady Cookie holed up in a shark cage for the duration of the match. The pair put forth a decent and involving bout, trading high spots and near falls.
Former buddies Rhino and RVD were certainly up for their First Blood match too, both unleashing a decidedly old-school ECW style battle.
The match of the night followed and in more ways than one showed that AJ Style is one of TNA’s best workers. His opponent Douglas Williams was no slouch either. The pairing moulded perfectly together to bring the audience in attendance and at home into their mini feud over Styles TNA Television Title. This was pure pleasure for fans of high risk moves, chain wrestling and hard-hitting action.
Generation Me and The Motor City Machineguns was a close second for match of the night though. The added factor of the Tag Team gold on the line and a Full Metal Mayhem stipulation meant the fans expectations were high. Luckily both pulled out all of the stops and went through a roller coaster ride of a match that saw ladders, chairs, insane high-risk moves and some nice looking double teams.
Abyss and The Pope’s Casket match was pretty good considering Abyss’ garbage wrestling style. The pair trading the advantage and pulling the old Undertaker casket lid closing tease a few times.
Samoa Joe’s post match assault by rogue security guys Gunner and Murphy gave Jeff Jarrett a distinct advantage in their Submission match. Jarrett held his own well against a weakened Joe, giving as good as he got, showing no mercy on Joe’s injured ankle.
The main event match between Matt Morgan and TNA Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy was a one sided affair at times, Morgan’s size and strength advantage leaving Hardy on the defensive a lot. The returning Mr Anderson as special referee also put Hardy’s back up too, making the match an exciting way to round off 2010.

2010 had been a year of ups and downs with TNA, there had been many changes to the product and the behind the scenes moves and shakes have seen such people as Hulk Hogan, Eric Bischoff, RVD, Jeff Hardy and Ric Flair join the array of talent that the company has on hand. Final Resolution was TNA’s best shot at ending the year on a high and to a degree it did just that.
Opening things of were tag teams Beer Money and Ink Inc, Storm and Roode proved once again how integral they are to the TNA product by raising the game of their opponents Moore and Neal. The in-ring action was well paced and showed both teams to their best, Neal especially displaying much improved ability and psychology than before.
With the addition of Mickie James and return of Tara to the fold the once mighty Knockouts division was back on track once more. James and Tara adding their brutal and exciting Falls Count Anywhere scrap to their spate of quality encounters. As cat fights go this was a blinder, both ladies going all out to beat each other about the ring, ringside area and anywhere else they could.
Next up TNA newcomer Robbie E defended his X Division gold against Jay Lethal, with E’s good lady Cookie holed up in a shark cage for the duration of the match. The pair put forth a decent and involving bout, trading high spots and near falls.
Former buddies Rhino and RVD were certainly up for their First Blood match too, both unleashing a decidedly old-school ECW style battle.
The match of the night followed and in more ways than one showed that AJ Style is one of TNA’s best workers. His opponent Douglas Williams was no slouch either. The pairing moulded perfectly together to bring the audience in attendance and at home into their mini feud over Styles TNA Television Title. This was pure pleasure for fans of high risk moves, chain wrestling and hard-hitting action.

TNA Against All Odds 2011

TNA’s first PPV event on its new UK channel Challenge proved to be the night that not only the company finally came home (even with a slight technical hitch), but the one where former World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy would regain his gold from Mr Anderson in the main event. The main event was an exciting and entertaining one, but it wasn’t the only highpoint in this event, that came hot on the heels of TNA’s best received UK tour to date.
Elsewhere on the card Robbie E claimed his spot as number one contender to Kazarian’s X Division Title after Generation Me were stranded due to travel issues. Fortunately the champ decided he would defend his belt anyway and he took Robbie to one of his best outings to date. Even with Cookie’s interference the Fortune member had the upper hand and retained with a good looking inverted tombstone piledriver.
Next up the boozed up trio of Scott Steiner and TNA Tag Team Champions Beer Money took on the team of Rob Terry, Gunner and Murphy. AJ Styles on colour commentary and the presence of Fortune’s ring masters Roode and Storm all helped ensure the lesser in-ring experienced Immortal members looked decent throughout. Steiner’s first match back in TNA went well too, with him nailing an impressive Frankensteiner for the win.
The ongoing Pope and Samoa Joe feud continued next, with both men trading the offensive and Joe’s cameraman Okado stopping Pope‘s hasty escape early on, Joe eventually took the advantage and struck with a ‘rear naked choke’ to gain the submission win. The cocky Pope’s post-match assault leaving Joe bloody and furious, this personal battle is one that will continue it seems.
In a bout missing from the UK broadcast due to a technical fault (which saw Challenge lose it‘s feed for a short time) TNA Knockouts Champion Madison Rayne faced Mickie James in a Last Knockout Standing brawl. Holding nothing back the pair battled around the ringside area and both went for it with gusto. James saw her title aspirations slip away once again after Rayne’s partner in crime Tara and the ever present loaded glove became involved in proceedings. Rayne nailed a brass knuckles shot to put James down for the ten count and end this chapter of their bitter war for the gold.
Hernandez and Matt Morgan took to the mic next, Supermex’s new pro-Mexican stance, heel status and anti-white stance had the crowd riled up and Morgan in pain with ease.
The RVD versus Matt Hardy scrap that followed was every bit as involving as their previous encounters and the pair were able to bring new depth and creativity to it as well. The back and forth action saw both unleash their trademark moves, neither holding back and Van Dam being fortunate enough to dodge a Hardy moonsault attempt and hit his ‘Five Star’ Frog Splash finisher to put Matt down for the three count.
Former tag team greats Team 3D’s separation has become increasingly violent and with Devon’s sons now involved it got worse. The former team mates Street Fight saw Ray take great delight in punishing his former set up the ‘what’s up’ head butt, Ray’s nasty side soon took over and he nailed Devon with a chair, decked his sons and handcuffed Devon to the ring, he won the match with ease and still decided to brutally put one of the boys through a table for good measure.
Kurt Angle’s very sanity was on the line in the penultimate match-up, he was placing the custody of his own children up against his walking ex wife Karen up the aisle for her wedding vow renewal with current husband Jeff Jarrett. Karen’s involvement, referee distractions/bumps and a lot of emotion played a big part in this one. The back and forth action saw numerous near falls, nice set-pieces and some great moves, Kurt however failed in his quest and lost the match and a chance at custody of his kids. As Jarrett gloated and vacated the ring a despairing Angle removed his boots and (in a move reminiscent of an amateur grappler retiring) he left them in the ring.
The main event for the TNA World Championship was everything it was expected to be, a violent, high-spot heavy ladder-based match up that saw challenger Jeff Hardy in his element and any limitations between him and his opponent become lost amongst the in-ring spectacle. Hardy after a few attempts was successful in regaining his grandiose gold belt and once again hold the title for his faction Immortal.
Against All Odds was a very good effort by TNA, it may have had a few moments where things could have been smoother and better produced, but overall the hits far outweighed the misses. With Jeff Hardy as new champ the chase is once again on to wrestle the gold away from Immortal’s clutches. The returning Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair may have a big part in who does that and where it happens. With a new home on UK TV and some heated re-matches and feuds in the works 2011 just got hotter for TNA.

Mr Anderson Interview
Mr Anderson - UK Fans will get a grade ‘A ‘performance from us

A few short days after his well deserved and surprising (to many) TNA World Heavyweight Championship win over Jeff Hardy at Genesis, new world champ Mr Anderson took some time from his busy schedule to chat to Phil Allely about his monumental win, the injury setback that almost cost him his spot and the upcoming TNA UK/Irish tour.
With no physical TV presence at the moment in the UK, TNA are striving to make the most of the situation and give their loyal fans here a reassuring nod that they are a vital component to the TNA product, the recently announced matches/roster for the Maximum Impact Tour next week are perhaps the strongest ever, as Mr Anderson agreed.
“It’s brutal that TNA is not on TV in the UK at present. I hope it won’t affect the tour, fans know what we bring to the table and we’ve even said who, and what they are going to get at each show. You know UK and Irish fans are always just so warm and receptive to TNA, we are gonna go over and put on a grade ‘A’ performance, so the fans hopefully will turn up to witness it. TNA live is like no other wrestling show.”
Mr Anderson spent 11 years bending bones to achieve his dream of a World Title and after many setbacks he has finally achieved his dream. There can be no better feeling than that of being the man who fronts the company on their annual tour as it’s main title holder.
“I’m very happy to be a representing this company any time I‘m in the ring or out, being the champ is the icing on the cake, I have been through some bad things in other organisations and thankfully I’m in such a good place now. You know compared to the U.S. the UK fans are a lot more vocal, I think it is because they don’t see us often, here (in the United States) the fans are more spoilt I guess, so we find the overseas fans savour the live event more and it’s seen as something really special.
We have a company full of unbelievable wrestlers, so many are in the title hunt and the challenges can come at me from anywhere. We have some great matches lined up for this tour, each night will be different and whilst I’m defending my title against some great guys, I’m not losing it anytime soon.”
Mr Anderson made his debut at genesis 2010 and seemed destined to win the TNA Heavyweight crown in the latter part of the year, however a botched chair-shot from Jeff Hardy set him back a month or two..
“Yeah my debut for TNA was at Genesis, so it’s cool to think a year down the line I won the title. It was a great feeling to do so and a night where the storytelling we do worked perfectly. It may have been a curveball of sorts (the match was an impromptu challenge from Hardy/Eric Bischoff that followed a gruelling match between Anderson and Matt Morgan). There are times when you can feel the crowd with you and you know they are joining in with you as you work. Win, lose or draw that is what I am here to do. At Genesis we had that reaction we dream of, it all fell into place and everyone believed in us. I’m happy and feel I have done my job if whether the title is on the line or not ,the fans have followed us from beginning to end and we brought them along for the ride.”
Anderson was taken off TV and live events for over two months when he suffered a serious concussion at the hands of Jeff Hardy. During that period he was itching to get back into the ring and eager to reclaim his spot on the card as the number one contender for the TNA World Title.
“It was Dixie who took me to the side at one of our live shows, I was there and ready to step back into the ring. She said ‘we think our not ready yet, go sit at home and spend time recuperating, we‘ll bring you back when you are fit and well enough.’ Maybe that’s the difference between TNA and the other places, we are not treated like racehorses and used until we are done and then dispatched without any thought for our future. Here (in TNA) we are not on the road 52 weeks a year or working 4 or more days a week. In my case I not only had two months off to get better, but then (like the rest of the locker room) after we’d finished our TV tapings, we got two full weeks to spend Christmas with my family. That kind of thing doesn’t happen anywhere else, Dixie and the company are very good at looking out for us and make it a great place to work. We are given the time and space to heal and rest up, you can see that in us all when we return from a layoff.”
Not content with one Hardy boy on its books (the now former champ Jeff) Genesis saw the TNA debut of his older brother Matt, Mr Anderson saw first hand as new boy Matt ran-in to try and sway the result of his Genesis title match. The pair have had many dealings in the past and Anderson for one is looking forward to future dealing with the elder Hardy .
“Matt was one of my favourite opponents ever, we kind of clicked in the ring and I had what I consider one of my best matches with him, it‘s even on his DVD, so if he comes up against me I’m more than happy for that. I’ve kind of got my hands full with Immortal right now though, the odds are against you every time you go out there, you take on one man and twelve are there to back him up.”
With a new title to defend, some fresh feuds in the pipeline, a UK tour to front and some all important re-matches lined up for forthcoming PPV’s Anderson would be forgiven for forgetting about past rivals who may wish to rekindle former high octane encounters and those out for an upset win to claim the gold for themselves.
“Yeah I’m the target now eh? There’s Kurt Angle for starters, odds are we’ll face each other again I’m sure, I had a great match with him at Lockdown , it is my all-time favourite bout I’ve been in and obviously if a re-match with him was there it wouldn’t be turned down. I feel that I still have some great places to go with AJ (Styles), we’ve not hit our mark yet,. (Samoa) Joe is a guy I have yet to do much with so he’d be an awesome opponent. But then I also need to be aware that there are some guys like Jay Lethal and Beer Money just waiting for an opportunity too. In my opinion TNA have the most peer talent in the business right now.”
With so many acquisitions by TNA over the past year or so, the roster is a melting pot of former WWE, WCW, ECW and UK stars, all of which seem to work well together and welcome the way the company is run and the talent managed. All of which is echoed by Anderson and his response to our query about future signings.
“TNA is a great place to work, we are all very happy here. You know I’m pleased to hear someone new has signed and welcome them to the team. But I do worry that if we sign someone new, then we may lose someone here already. If there was someone I’d say we could use and work with right now I’d have to say MVP, he has so much potential. On a different note, Chris Jericho would make a great asset, plus I never really got to work with him before, but I know we’d be great.”
TNA’s Maximum Impact! Tour kicks off in Dublin on January 24th and takes in Glasgow, Manchester and London as the week progresses.

TNA Genesis 2011 Pay-Per-View Review

TNA have a few huge hurdles facing them at present, the absence of Hulk Hogan (due to more back issues), Jeff Hardy’s upcoming drug hearings and biggest of all the lack of any UK TV time at all for the company (due to Sky takeover of Virgin Media and end of Impact! home channel Bravo). TNA’s upcoming January tour fo the UK could feel the bunt if they are not careful too. Fortunately The standby option of watching for free on TNA’s website does help with that somewhat.
Genesis needed to be something very special indeed and with only a few minor faults, it provided surprise appearances, title changes and some thoroughly enjoyable and exciting match-ups.
Kicking things off Kazarian (representing Immortal & Fortune) took on fellow high flyer and risk-taker Jay Lethal in an entertaining and dangerous X Division Title scrap. Kazarian though proved to have the upper hand in this one and stole the belt from Lethal after nasty looking reverse ‘tombstone’, notching up the first win of the night for the invading factions fronted by Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair.
Next up the two ladies who rank high in the rejuvenated Knockouts Division Mickie James and Madison Rayne faced off for Rayne’s cherished women’s singles strap. The talented James was more than able to carry the ever-improving Rayne to a great bout. Tara’s interference and a ‘loaded’ glove shot by Rayne sealed James fate however and Madison held on to her gold one more time.
Anytime the two best combos in the wrestling business (in this writers opinion) meet in the ring it is a special thing, throwing the TNA World Tag Team belts into the mix make that even more special. Tag Champs the Motor City Machineguns against Beer Money had so many high spots it’s hard to pick them out. Sabin/Shelley and Roode/Storm blend together so well they make pure wrestling poetry when they meet. The duos had an amazing match, but for man of us watching the writing was on the wall, Beer Money were going to take the title back and leave ‘the Guns’ as the hungry ex-champs. The finish however did swing the balance in Beer Money’s favour, Sabin hitting Shelly in error with a kick, allowing Roode to make the cover and take home the title for his team and again notch a win for Fortune/Immortal.
The most decorated tag team in wrestling (Team 3D) continued their implosion as Brothers Ray and Devon took their annoyance out on their (storyline) sibling. The arena and ringside area became a war zone for this encounter, both not wanting to give up and unleash much pain on the other. The brutal blows, cheap shots and more all leading to Brother Ray finally pushing the tamer Devon over the edge and the ref disqualifying him, leaving Ray the winner by default.
The pair even continued post-match trading low blows and stiff shots.
AJ Styles being genuinely injured led to Abyss taking his place against Television Champion Douglas Williams. No matter how much the UK’s Williams worked here he had to realise that this was not going to be his night. Abyss took control form the start, beating Williams about the ring and unleashing all manner of hard-hitting moves on him. Williams had some flurry’s of retaliation, but even as they took effect a run/hobble-in from Styles saw Abyss take another belt home for the Immortal/Fortune collective.
The following encounter was shaded in secrecy and suspense from the get go, former TNA Heavyweight Champion Rob Van Dam was about to face a handpicked opponent by Immortal’s Eric Bischoff. When it was stated that RVD was going to get Hardy )of course World Champ Jeff Hardy was off the card) we thought we knew what was coming, but what we got was his brother and former WWE superstar Matt Hardy (sporting a new look). This was a wonderfully heated pairing, both men have faced each other before and both have something to prove as former champ and TNA new boy respectively. After some near falls, trademark moves and great interaction the end came controversially, Hardy striking a ‘twist of hate’ and pinning RVD as his leg lay under the ring rope.
Jeff Jarrett and the returning Kurt Angle put forth a vicious at times MMA challenge brawl next, the pair exchanging holds, moves, offensive and defensive holds. The main event was designed to determine the number one contender for Jeff Hardy’s World Heavyweight Championship. Mr Anderson (fresh off his enforced concussion based sabbatical) squaring off against the hugely imposing Matt Morgan. Anderson was on fine form and showed no signs of his recent injuries. He and Morgan swapping the advantage, exchanging potential finishing moves and trading the odd near fall. Luckily after a longish and arduous match the talented Anderson was able to pull off a quick roll-up to win the match and challenge the TNA Champion somewhere down the line.
That opportunity then came out of the blue as Eric Bischoff turned up to say that Anderson’s chance at the gold would be now, Bischoff hoping that an exhausted Anderson would be no match for a fresh Hardy.
After such a night of wins and triumphs for Immortal and Fortune, perhaps Bischoff had pushed his luck too far with this additional match for Mr Anderson.
Hardy and Anderson’s brief match saw both unload some of their trademark moves and run-ins from Mick Foley, Matt Hardy, Bischoff and RVD. All of which led to a nice Anderson ‘mic check’ to pin Hard and net himself his first world crown.
Genesis was a superb opener in TNA’s 2011 PPV assault and one that proved that the company do have a great product and roster on hand to get it over. The lack of UK TV coverage may have a knock on effect on the upcoming tour (which we will cover in depth here soon, plus there’s an exclusive interview with new champ Mr Anderson as well). But as we all know TNA enjoy being the underdog with the big heart and they always seem to bounce back. Anderson as champ is a good move and opens up a wealth of new main event feuds and unfinished rivalries for the company as 2011 progresses.
TNA Genesis 2011 Pay-Per-View ReviewBy Phil Allely
TNA have a few huge hurdles facing them at present, the absence of Hulk Hogan (due to more back issues), Jeff Hardy’s upcoming drug hearings and biggest of all the lack of any UK TV time at all for the company (due to Sky takeover of Virgin Media and end of Impact! home channel Bravo). TNA’s upcoming January tour fo the UK could feel the bunt if they are not careful too. Fortunately The standby option of watching for free on TNA’s website does help with that somewhat.
Genesis needed to be something very special indeed and with only a few minor faults, it provided surprise appearances, title changes and some thoroughly enjoyable and exciting match-ups.
Kicking things off Kazarian (representing Immortal & Fortune) took on fellow high flyer and risk-taker Jay Lethal in an entertaining and dangerous X Division Title scrap. Kazarian though proved to have the upper hand in this one and stole the belt from Lethal after nasty looking reverse ‘tombstone’, notching up the first win of the night for the invading factions fronted by Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair.
Next up the two ladies who rank high in the rejuvenated Knockouts Division Mickie James and Madison Rayne faced off for Rayne’s cherished women’s singles strap. The talented James was more than able to carry the ever-improving Rayne to a great bout. Tara’s interference and a ‘loaded’ glove shot by Rayne sealed James fate however and Madison held on to her gold one more time.
Anytime the two best combos in the wrestling business (in this writers opinion) meet in the ring it is a special thing, throwing the TNA World Tag Team belts into the mix make that even more special. Tag Champs the Motor City Machineguns against Beer Money had so many high spots it’s hard to pick them out. Sabin/Shelley and Roode/Storm blend together so well they make pure wrestling poetry when they meet. The duos had an amazing match, but for man of us watching the writing was on the wall, Beer Money were going to take the title back and leave ‘the Guns’ as the hungry ex-champs. The finish however did swing the balance in Beer Money’s favour, Sabin hitting Shelly in error with a kick, allowing Roode to make the cover and take home the title for his team and again notch a win for Fortune/Immortal.
The most decorated tag team in wrestling (Team 3D) continued their implosion as Brothers Ray and Devon took their annoyance out on their (storyline) sibling. The arena and ringside area became a war zone for this encounter, both not wanting to give up and unleash much pain on the other. The brutal blows, cheap shots and more all leading to Brother Ray finally pushing the tamer Devon over the edge and the ref disqualifying him, leaving Ray the winner by default.
The pair even continued post-match trading low blows and stiff shots.
AJ Styles being genuinely injured led to Abyss taking his place against Television Champion Douglas Williams. No matter how much the UK’s Williams worked here he had to realise that this was not going to be his night. Abyss took control form the start, beating Williams about the ring and unleashing all manner of hard-hitting moves on him. Williams had some flurry’s of retaliation, but even as they took effect a run/hobble-in from Styles saw Abyss take another belt home for the Immortal/Fortune collective.
The following encounter was shaded in secrecy and suspense from the get go, former TNA Heavyweight Champion Rob Van Dam was about to face a handpicked opponent by Immortal’s Eric Bischoff. When it was stated that RVD was going to get Hardy )of course World Champ Jeff Hardy was off the card) we thought we knew what was coming, but what we got was his brother and former WWE superstar Matt Hardy (sporting a new look). This was a wonderfully heated pairing, both men have faced each other before and both have something to prove as former champ and TNA new boy respectively. After some near falls, trademark moves and great interaction the end came controversially, Hardy striking a ‘twist of hate’ and pinning RVD as his leg lay under the ring rope.

TNA UK Tour 2011 Line-up Revealed
THE HARDYZ will wrestle the Motorcity Machine Guns, while Ric Flair prepares to do battle with Doug Williams, as part of TNA's European Tour at the end of this month.
The company today announced the full roster and key matches for the Tour, which stops in Dublin, Glasgow, Manchester and London.
Matt Hardy and Kurt Angle are the two latest additions to the line-up, along with British star Mark Haskins - rated as this country's brightest young wrestling talent.
The full roster also features Mr. Anderson, Rob Van Dam, Jeff Jarrett, Mickie James, "The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero, Beer Money, Madison Rayne, "Prince of Punk" Shannon Moore, Tara, Kazarian and Angelina Love.
Flair will wrestle Doug at Wembley on January 29, the first ever meeting between the icons of the American and British wrestling scenes.
Matt and Jeff Hardy will take on the Machine Guns on January 28 in Manchester, while the day before in Glasgow sees Anderson defend his new World Heavyweight Championship against Jeff Hardy.
Anderson will also defend against Pope in Manchester, Hardy again in London and a Triple Threat match in Dublin on January 24 taking on both Hardy and Jarrett.
Also set for the Irish event is a Knockout tag team match pitting Tara and Madison Rayne against Mickie James and Angelina Love.

Eric Bischoff Talks TNA & More
Below are highlights from Eric Bischoff's recent interview with Monday Night Mayhem.
His most realistic goal that he would like to achieve personally with TNA in the new year:
"On a personal level, I would love to be part of TNA's strategic growth. I think that's one of the biggest challenges right now that TNA has. I would love to see more programming out of TNA across different channels, as well as potentially on Spike TV. Different types of programming. I think all of those things, just like we're seeing in WWE (the fact they're bringing back Tough Enough), that is an perfect example, I think, of what TNA needs to do to grow their brand. You can't keep preaching to the same choir over and over and over again and expect to grow the congregation, so to speak."
His thoughts about the main event #1 Contender's Match at Genesis Pay-Per-View between "The Blueprint" Matt Morgan and Mr. Anderson & TNA giving a "strong build" through the past several weeks on iMPACT & ReAction to their main event this Sunday night:
"I think we had a great build to the # 1 contenders match in the three-way at Bound for Glory. In this particular case, I think we have a good slow & strong build. I think what makes the story resonate with people probably is there's enough reality in the story that it's plausible, and it's believable. The more reality in a story, the more I think I people gravitates towards it."
Why he is not satisfied with the Immortal storyline to this point thus far, the impact that Hulk Hogan's back injury had in the changing of TNA's initial plans for it, & why he is excited to see where things go in the very near future on TNA programming (with a "much more effervescent Hulk Hogan"):
"No I'm not. Clearly there was a pretty big setback with Hulk Hogan, which forced us to kind of shift on the fly, in terms of that storyline. At this point, the story is not where we wanted it to, be but as frustrated or disappointed I may be about that, it's part of life. But I'm equally as excited about where it's going to go in the very near future. I talk to Hulk almost every other day, if not every day, and he's getting better. I think the prognosis for him & his ability to become active and a part of the story in a much better way: You're going to see a much more effervescent Hulk Hogan than we've probably seen in a couple years, and I think the story's going to evolve very nicely."
Whether Sting will be returning to TNA in 2011 or if we will see him sign with the WWE, especially with the speculation of a WCW-themed Hall of Fame class as part of WrestleMania XXVII weekend in Atlanta:
"If I had to guess, and if he is going to sign another agreement, which I'm not sure he is going to do at this stage of his career, my bet would be that he is going to sign with TNA. I'm not sure what Sting's motivations are at this point. I know physically he's told me on more than one occasion that it's getting harder & harder to deliver the type of performances that he wants to deliver in the ring for his fans. That's got to be a big part of his consideration. I think realistically, if he would go to the WWE, there would be some additional pressure, much more than in TNA, to perform in the ring, and that would be a hard thing for him to do at this point in his career."

TNA Twin Pack 2010 - DVD Review

This is a novel idea by TNA, teaming up two very popular and heavily linked Pay-Per-View events from 2010 and packaging them in one nice little two disc set.
Yes many of us have seen these events and as has become traditional with TNA PPV’s the match quality varied considerably throughout, ranging from the bearable to the spectacular, usually the tag team encounters and X Division battles falling into the latter. However there were some interesting story threads running through these events and by combining the two of them like this we can follow their natural progression from July’s Victory Road to September’s No Surrender.
The main reason to buy this set is to see the story unfold revolving around the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, Firstly in the extremely heated four-way title scrap between Rob Van Dam, Abyss, Jeff Hardy and Mr Anderson and then further as the duo’s of Kurt Angle/Jeff Hardy and Mr Anderson/The Pope vied to snare a place in the final of the tournament to crown a new World Champ (after Abyss took RVD out of the picture and left the title in limbo). Both sets of main events are great to view again and have some fine action too.
Elsewhere on the cards there are some great match-ups, Ric Flair’s heated comedy brawl with Jay Lethal is amusing, exciting and surprising all at once. Motor City Machineguns versus Beer Money for the vacant Tag Team belts has a well deserved ending. Doug Williams has two very different, yet enthralling bouts against Kendrick (Victory Road) and Sabu (No Surrender). Abyss and Rhino head to ECW country for a decent Falls Count Anywhere scrap and AJ Styles takes on Tommy Dreamer in a very good I Quit match-up.
There are also pretty decent Knockouts matches, tag team brawls involving teams of Sting/Kevin Nash, Jeff Jarrett/Samoa Joe, AJ Styles/Kazarian and Samoa Joe/Rob Terry. Overall both events hit the mark an awful lot more than they miss. There are some nice title encounters, loads of near-falls, high risk moves and some great glimpses of just why TNA, when on form has all the tools to be as successful as a certain other big name wrestling outfit well known across the globe.

Mr Anderson Out Til Jan 2011

TNA's Mr Anderson is said to be being kept out of the ring until at least January 2011. This is a precaution after the recent concussion he has suffered. An ill-timed chair shot from Jeff Hardy caused the damage and cost Anderson his recent title shot and maybe even a main event run for the company. It will be interesting to see if he returns to the same spot in January, as he will be joining fellow returnees Kurt Angle, Sting and maybe even Kevin Nash then too. It is however good to see TNA taking head injuries seriously and keeping Anderson out of action until they feel he is ready to return.

Mr Anderson out of TNA for how long?

TNA's Mr Anderson is out of action indefinitely he suffered a serious concussion last month at an Impact! taping after a vicious Jeff Hardy chair shot. No news of when he may return, shame as he was in the middle of a good push.
TNA are now said to be banning head shots with chairs.
