New Interview - TNA's James Storm
Cowboy James Storm
Interview
By Phil Allely
James Storm has pretty
much done it all in TNA. He has held most of the companies gold and
of course had a stint as World Heavyweight Champion. He is also one
of the stars of the upcoming UK/Irish tour this coming January. We
caught up with him this past week to discuss that tour, his future
plans and much more here are some highlights.
Phil: So James what
does it mean to be included on the UK/Irish tour?
'It is always great to
on the UK/Irish tour. I can say for sure that is my favourite place
to go. The fans are all really into it and crazy for what we do.'
Phil: At present it
seems as if Ireland will be the only show not recorded for TV. Will
it be any different than the others?
'Yes we are doing live
shows and a One Night Only PPV in England/Scotland. They will be
exciting do be a part of. The big difference between them and our
Dublin show is that it is a house show and we will be a bit different
as we can relax a bit more. There will no script that night and we
will be having out there. You Irish are wild guys and great drinkers,
so I'm looking forward to that leg of the tour.'
Phil: How do you feel
about the One Night Only format and that it will be made in the UK
?
'The British PPV will
be awesome, the thing about One Night Only shows is that it is an
exciting concept and they stand alone outside of our normal
storylines. They tell a very different story and are something we can
all get our teeth into. They are always fun for us all.'
'The other shows will
be live recordings. So they are scripted and need to tell the story.
They are tougher to do, but we all have a job to do and you just out
there and feel the energy of the fans. I enjoy everything we are
doing and this tour has it all.'
Phil: So James do you
think in your opinion do you feel the reduction in PPV events by TNA
was a good one?
'I definitely think the
decision to reduce our PPV to four was a good one. We now have more
time to build them up and they are more entertaining for that.'
Phil: What about Hulk
Hogan leaving the company. How do you feel about it?
'Yeah, the way I see it
Hulk Hogan came and he left. He brought us a whole new level of
interest from a lot of markets and he opened doors for us. I don't
know if we will see him again, but you have to admit he got our
product out there to a wider audience and that is was important to
do.'
Phil: What do you think
makes TNA different than other companies out there James?
'In my opinion our fans
of wrestling tune in to see wrestling. So that is what we offer them.
Yes we mix it up and have segments, but we offer fans the best
wrestling out there.'
'One thing I will say
is that I feel title matches should be defended on PPV and not free
TV. It makes the matches more special for us and the fans.'
Phil: Speaking of
titles James. Is the World Title on your radar in 2014?
'I'd like to think I
will get the World Title back again one day soon. But you really do
have to work hard to get that opportunity and I always do.'
Phil: We all know of
course that you like a beer and of course there have been other
wrestlers who have carried a can or bottle to the ring before. Do you
feel you are honouring them or was this a continuation of your own
persona?
'People will always
compare a wrestler to someone else who has come before them. There
are no new things to do any more. I think we all take an idea or a
bit of ourselves and we make it our own style. I Mean Steve Austin
came out with beer, but he was different than me and of course
Sandman came before that. For example am I copying Shawn Michaels by
using the superkick? He made it popular, but that has been around a
long time.'
Phil: So let's ask you
James, what does the future hold for 'The Cowboy'?
'In my future I'd like
to see titles, much more wrestling and of course drinking beer.'
Phil: What about the
current TNA roster. Have you any of your peers that you feel may be
able to step up and win the World Title, if they received the
opportunity?
'As for other guys here
who have title potential. There is of course Roode and (the UK's own)
Magnus is a strong contender too. He (Magnus) loves wrestling and he
really wants to succeed. That guy is always watching old matches to
learn more. You have to put in the hard work and if you do the time
will come.'
Phil; Outside of
wrestling what occupies your time James?
'I spend as much time
as I can with my family when I am off the road. I like to try to get
back some of the time I miss with them. I am also working on a
reality show idea I have had for a while. Where I run a bar. I'd love
it to take off.'

TNA Live Review: Bound For Glory 2013
TNA
Bound For Glory 2013
In
recent months TNA/Impact Wrestling has been the subject of much
debate. Talent have left, storylines have altered and the company's
future has been in doubt. The latest mystery was would Hulk Hogan
re-sign or not. However coem what may Dixie Carter and co. had to
deliver a hard-hitting Bound For Glory no matter what. So this past
Sunday (last night here in the UK on Challenge) we saw the fruits of
their labour.
First
up four tag teams battled it out for a shot at the doubles gold in a
'Gauntlet match'. The teams did their job here and we got to see how
well Chavo and Hernandez gel as a unit. The main points were Robbie E
and Jessie Godderz picking up the win and perhaps the moment when we
will finally see Joseph Park and Abyss reunite as a character.
Next
up the usually impressive Ultimate X match did what it is designed to
do and took early match of the night rights. Here we had Jeff Hardy
(in his first Ultimate X encounter) facing off against Samoa Joe,
Chris Sabin, Austin Aries and Manik. Now first up lets address the
fact that there were four former World Champs involved here and as
expected they delivered sterling efforts. The bumps, spots and high
impact moves were crisp, nicely paced and well planned. The finishing
sequence saw Sabin's girlfriend Velvet Sky get involved in
proceedings and allow him to steal the win and the belt.
The
TNA tag titles were then on the line as 'Gauntlet match' winners
Jesse and Robbie E tackled the formidable duo of James Storm and
Gunner. This was a decnt enough back and forth match that showed the
champs (Storm/Gunner) to their best and also let us see their
opponents positives too. The shock here was the duo of Mr E and
Godderz being able to unseat the popular Storm and Gunner as champs.
Kurt
Angle's Hall of Fame induction and return to TNA were highly
anticipated. However his induction was short lived as the man himself
declined the honour until he felt he is worthy of it.
The
Knockouts Division in TNA was once the section of the show that
grabbed ratings due to its talent. This has dwindled of late, but
here we had three of the company's best ODB, Gail Kim and Brooke
Tessmacher in a cat fight for the strap. Brooke has come on leaps and
bounds recently, Gail Kim is a real pro and ODB can brawl with the
best of them. This was a nicely worked battle and Kim's win via an
assist by Lei'd Tapa really opens up the division once again.
Kurt
Angle's return to the ring against Bobby Roode was and
intense affair. It may not have lived up to expectations, but it did
give us fans a chance to see what both me have to offer and that
Angle is not invincible. His loss will surely mean he has a program
with Roode upcoming and that will be worth the wait.
I'll
quickly gloss over the Ethan Carter/Norv Pernum match as it really
was meaningless.
Main
Event Mafia men Sting and Magnus (the UK's biggest wrestling star in
2013) then battled out their differences in a pretty reasonable bout.
The action was back and forth and each man attempted to lock in their
finisher. The end saw Sting tap out and two eventually embrace.
The
World Title 'No DQ' encounter between Bully Ray and AJ Styles rounded
things off nicely. Both men pulled out all of the stops to give fans
what they wanted. We got high-risk moves, career shortening spots and
of course the inevitable run-ins from the remaining members of Aces &
Eights. There was also an appearance by 'heel' Dixie Carter, who
brought a steel chair into the fray. Styles however overcame it all
to net himself his second world championship.
The
show went off the air with AJ celebrating with the elated fans.
Bound
For Glory was a perfectly reasonable affair. Some matches were
predictable, a few disappointed, but we did see many title changes
and storylines altering for the better. The big thing is how will TNA
tackle the AJ contract situation, do they really need Hulk Hogan back
on the roster and can they rebuild the damage the recent lay-offs
have created to the company. The next few months will be very
important for TNA and its fans .

Austin Aries Interview by Phil Allely
Austin Aries Interview
By Phil Allely
In a few short years Austin Aries has already done it all in TNA. He has held the X Division and Team Team titles and of course raised the world Heavyweight belt.
Fame's Phil Allely caught up with A Double this past week to discuss his inclusion on the upcoming UK/Ireland tour and much more. Here are some highlights.
On the upcoming Maximum Impact tour in 2014.
'I'm really happy to be on the UK/Irish tour again. We all want to be a part of it. I'm looking forward to being out there in front of the fans and feeling their energy. They really love and appreciate what we do in the ring and the TNA product.'
'The reason the fans there embrace us so much is (I feel) because they only get to see us live once a year and are not spoiled by seeing us too often. They get to see our calibre of wrestling and feel more passionate about coming to see us.'
'That dedication and passion carries over to us in the back too. We always step it up in the ring during these tours.'
'I enjoy meeting fans and the fan interaction events are great ways for them to get up closer to us. But what I will say is that some fans need to be more respectful to us and show some more manners. It does not hurt to say please and thank you. I know that means a lot to me and I am sure the boys feel the same way.'
On World Title dreams.
'Do I want the World Title back of course I do!. I don't care who has it I'll get it from them. I've beaten Bully, Roode and countless others. I have the skill-set and drive to do it. All I need is the opportunity and shot at the belt.'
On why he has not joined a group or faction in TNA.
'You know I've never ran with the crowd. I don't subscribe to things like that. In college I never joined fraternities or gangs etc. so why start now. I do things my way and the benefit of that is that I know I can trust myself and my career is most important to me and not others.'
On morale backstage.
'There have been so many rumours about us (TNA) since the start and they never come true. People online and in many so-called 'dirt sheets' love making up stories. I think most of us just want to turn up and go to work, not have those things flying around us. This is a business and things like this (talent releases) happen. I believe things need a shake-up regularly and that leads to fresh match-ups and storylines, it is a natural part of the business.'
His favourite TNA match.
'That's a tough call, but my favourite match so far has been my ladder match against Jeff (Hardy). What I don't think people realise is that I was suffering from some serious injuries then. I had herniated discs in my back and it was for the title, so I had to work through the pain and deliver on the night. We all have to work through an injury (it's part of the business), but you know I am very proud of that match and that I was given the opportunity to carry the company for a while too.'
On possible future feuds.
'I would love to step back in the ring with Kurt Angle, when he comes back he will be a lot stronger and a match with him would be awesome. Sting is a guy I'd like to wrestle him too. I like a physical challenge and am happy to work with anyone. I see some great young talent out there as well. The likes of Garrett (Bischoff) and Wes (Brisco) get knocked a lot, but they work hard and have great potential. They are solid dudes and fans should watch out for them. I guess I am happy to work with the top guys and maybe even help the younger ones improve their game and move up the ladder.'

TNA's Nick 'Magnus' Aldis interview
TNA wrestler films TV
show in Belfast
Nick Aldis may be best
know as Magnus to viewers of TNA Wrestling programming, however there
is an awful lot more to him that simply being a professional
wrestler. I caught up with Nick in
Belfast as he filmed for Challenge TV (also home to TNA here in the
UK) show UK''s Strongest Man. Series. Aldis and co-host Matt Bell
were on hand to film links for the series, interview some of the
competitors and much more over this August Bank Holiday Weekend
event. Here are highlights from that chat.
Phil: Hi Nick first up
let's chat about you presenting this show. How are you enjoying that
experience?
Nick: Well Phil this is
my second year now. So being asked back must mean I am doing OK
(laughs). Honestly this is a great job, we have a small team really,
our Producer, Matt and myself. I think it helps that Matt and I get
on so well too. That gives us a rapport and something that comes
across on screen.
Phil: Is presenting
something you feel you would like to do more of?
Nick: Yes it is. I love
getting to help produce our pieces (with the guys) and I am learning
so much about the behind the scenes work that you need to know. After
all I came from working holiday camps and Gladiators to wrestling in
the US for TNA and now this. I'm always learning I guess and picking
stuff up. If there are opportunities to do more jobs like this I am
happy to do them.
Phil: Would you say
that presenting something like UK's Strongest Man has helped you with
your in-ring promos?
Nick: Yes and no. I
have always had good responses to my promos and got praise from the
guys in the back. It maybe has made me look at things in more detail
perhaps and of course I have a lot more knowledge of what they are
doing back there now as well.
Phil: May we ask you
about life in TNA. For example how do you feel about the recent spate
of roster cuts?
Nick: I love being a
part of TNA and think a lot of times when there is bad publicity it
is taken out of context or only partially explained (to suit others
means). For example recently Jesse Sorenson (former TNA wrestler)
made some comment about how the company treated him, but the truth is
he was treated very well, they took care of insurance and even paid
for bills. It was blown out of proportion.
Phil: Many say the cuts
have been due to added costs created by taking the company on the
road each week?
Nick: Well yes there
are indeed costs in taking us on the road and that will have an
affect on us as a roster. Honestly the way I see it is that we have
only one two hour TV show and we all cannot be given time on it. I
think what has happened has been necessary for the product and us a
company. I mean how can you build up a storyline or character if you
are barely getting any TV time. That also means many of the guys were
getting basic wages. I'd call it streamlining and something that will
help us.
Phil: The UK market has
grown very steadily in recent years and Impact has become on of its
top shows. How important is the UK to TNA?
Nick: It is very
important to us and I would love to see us back here more often. I
know the company have a lot of ideas for the UK/Irish fans as well.
We always get a great response there. The UK Boot Camp series also
highlighted some of the talented wrestlers we have here and we know
there are a lot more. I think it helps UK wrestlers to see guys like
myself, Robbie T, Doug (Williams) etc. on TV and makes them want to
break the US too. Challenge TV have really embraced us and I guess
you could say I am the UK face for us right now too.
Phil: You mentioned
Boot Camp there, I feel that concept worked very well. You were
involved in that were you not?
Nick: I worked as
colour commentator on that and boy do I now have (even) more respect
for guys like JB (Jeremy Borash) too. You really have to think on
your feet and not panic. I liked doing that and hope to maybe do some
more. The competitors really worked hard throughout as well. There
are a lot of UK/Irish wrestlers who have real potential to be big
stars.
Phil: You have already
done so much in TNA. But how does it feel to be in the new Main Event
Mafia line-up?
Nick: It is a real
honour to be involved and what I must say it that guys like Sting and
Kurt Angle have always been two of the main guys who have been
pushing for me backstage too. They have done that genuinely and
really helped me move along. To share the ring with them is amazing.
Phil: In relation to
Kurt I for one thought it was a nice touch that (TNA President) Dixie
Carter mentioned his entering rehab and his absence from storylines.
Do you feel the same?
Nick: To be honest I
can see the reasoning, but maybe would not have done it in the ring
like that. I think it was really for Kurt's benefit to let him see
how much support he has from the fans and us all on the roster.
Phil: Thanks so much
for your time Nick I'll hopefully see you on the January 2014
UK/Irish tour.
Nick: Thanks Phil. I'll
see you there.
Nick and his co-host
Matt were recording their UK's Strongest Man show live from Belfast.
This will be shown on Challenge TV very soon. In the meantime you can
watch Nick (as Magnus) each week on the channel's Impact Wrestling
show.
Ultimate (UK's)
Strongest Man has been running for ten years now and was created by
Northern Irish strongman Glenn Ross. Ross has won the event many
times and represented Ireland and the UK at many others across the
globe as well. Ross has also competed at the World's Strongest Man
events and founded the UK Strength Council and Irish Strength
Association. As well as organising the UK's Strongest Man events Ross
also acts as a referee when needed.
Phil caught up with
Glenn briefly, here are his responses.
'We have been doing
this for ten years now and it has grown so much since then'.
'It is great to have
Challenge recording this and supporting us too'.
'We started out on
Channel 5 way back then and didn't know where we would end up. This
is amazing to see'.
'This weekend we hope
to see between 500-1000 people here outside the Odyssey Arena in
Belfast'.

Brooke Hogan latest TNA release
Hogan's Daughter
released by TNA
By Phil Allely
Hulk Hogan's daughter
Brooke Hogan was released by TNA this past week. The main reason for
this is said to be that she is another casualty of the company's
ongoing cost-cutting measures.
These measures have
become necessary due to the amount of extra money it has cost to take
Impact on the road (away from the comforts of the Impact Zone studio
in Florida). These additional costs are said to be in region of
hundreds of thousands of dollars per taping.
There are also rumours
that the company have not been receiving as much at the live gate and
on merchandise as they expected either.
The lovely Miss Hogan
had proved to be a good addition to the roster and apart from her
role controlling the Knockouts division (which went down very well on
and off screen), she was also a major part of the Bully Ray heel turn
and Aces & Eights. Brooke was of course involved in a (storyline)
romantic relationship with Bully Ray that led to an ill-fated
on-screen wedding and saw her and Hulk become the centre-pieces to
the inevitable reveal that Bully was after all the mastermind behind
the biker-inspired gang.
The odds are Brooke may
well return to TNA at some sporadic points down the line. As long as
her father is working there this seems logical. Her recent real life
engagement to a US football player has also damaged at least one
storyline as well.
Miss Hogan joins the
recent spate of TNA release's that has included D-Lo Brown, Matt
Morgan, Jess Sorensen, Doc, Tara and talent Boss Bruce Pritchard. UK
star Doug Williams was also a victim of this talent cull.

TNA Live Review: TNA 10
TNA stars old and new take to the ring for the company's 10th anniversary.
By Phil Allely
In another of TNA's ongoing 'One Night Only' series of PPV style events the stars of Impact wrestling were able to step outside of the world of storylines and have some pretty decent matches. This time we were presented with a glimpse into the company's ten year history. The idea being we get to see many highlights form the the past ten years and maybe even se some old faces along the way.
Kicking things off were Kenny King, Sonjay Dutt and Petey Williams in a nice X Division scrap. This should have been better, but it did do its job to build up momentum and interest in the show. King pulled off the win to a mild response.
Next up the Knockouts elevated things well with what became a well-paced scrap. Gail Kim did what she does best and took Velvet Sky to one of her best matches in ages here. The ladies pulled out all of the stops as well. Velvet Sky's win really didn't harm Kim's reputation at all wither.
The 'Gauntlet Match' that followed saw some new faces and some old ones too. This was held under over the top rope rules and the the final two would be down to pinfall/submission conditions. Shark Boy worked very hard throughout here, his fan base evidently are still out there. Jonny Devine made a monumental mistake in a rope based assault and caused his own ejection early on. The now gone Matt Morgan became the star of the show though and played his big man role well. His win was not a surprise at all.
On the tag team front TNA have been lacking as of late. So when you are offered Bad Influence, LAX and Team 3D we viewers are not going to complain. All three teams raised their game here, 3D were in fine form and Kaz/Daniels were as expected as sharp as ever. The nice touch was Lax's reunion and the fact that they never lost a step. Supermex flew, Homicide risked his life as always and the team were on fire. 3D pulled off the win though after a well placed 3D.
Austin Aries and Jeff Hardy then went on to have a pretty decent encounter. The exchanges were crisp, well worked and much more here. Both men shared the stage here nicely and built the night to the level we expected. Hardy's win was a favourable one we believe.
As tensions and the atmosphere grew former tag team partners James Storm and Bobby Roode took to the ring. What was nice here was that both me knew each other so well and could counter almost every move. Roode may have pulled off the win, but he did have his feet on the ropes to achieve it.
The main event saw (now Main Even Mafia members) Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe embark on a wonderful in-ring tale. As expected Kurt and Joe took things to a while new level here and both had their work boots on too. A well placed 'Angle Slam' saw Joe put way however.
The TNA 10 Year special was a fun addition to proceedings. The matches were for the main above par, the roster stepped up and we loved seeing events unfold. However many of us did hope to see more old school/veteran TNA stars appear.

TNA Destination X 2013 Review
TNA Original unseats
World Champ Bully Ray
By Phil Allely
This past week on TNA's
flagship show Impact (broadcast last night on Challenge in the
UK/Ireland) current X Division champion Chris Sabin gave up his X
Division Championship for a shot at Aces and Eight's president Bully
Ray in the main event of the X Division themed Impact TV taping.
Sabin has been with TNA
for ten years so far and held the X Division gold multiple times, he
also formed a formidable team with fellow high-flyer Alex Shelley for
many years too.
Recent years have seen
Shelley leave TNA and Sabin undergo major surgery on both his knees.
Those surgeries gave
many critics the opportunity to write off Sabin as a serious
competitor for any title any time soon. However here he was now
poised to face off against one of the most sadistic and brutal
performers in the world of wrestling and he not only stood up against
him, he beat him at his own game too.
In the past Destination
X was an X Division only themed PPV, that saw the companies mid-card
roster members take to the big stage. This year of course due to the
reduction in PPV events TNA opted to take the event down the Impact
route instead.
Sabin was subjected to
a huge amount of brutal offence from the A&8's head honcho here
and you did really feel he was set for failure throughout. But the
dogged enthusiasm and energy he offered up made you believe in him.
The match itself saw
Ray unleash all manner of hurt on his foe. Chris sported some serious
marks on his body form the get go. This was a hard-hitting scrap, we
saw A&8's interfere, the Main Event Mafia even things up and for
once justice prevailed.
Sabin pulled off the
shock win after a number of run-ins and he used the much-used hammer
to swerve events his way.
Elsewhere we saw Austin
Aries beat Bobby Roode in a Bound For Glory series encounter. We also
saw former TNA star Sonjay Dutt best Homicide and Petey Williams for
a shot at the now abandoned X title. Taking himself to the same spot
was the former Suicide (now Manik), who overcame the duo of Chavo and
Kenny King. Next up we saw three younger TNA stars compete for the
last X Division title match spot. The UK's own Rockstar Spud was on
fine form here, but he did have stiff competition. Spud and Greg
Marascuilo worked well with Spud, Marascuilo pulled off the win too.
The Destination X
Impact show worked well and having less time than a PPV things
progressed faster too. For the most part the matches worked well and
the main event finish git many of us by (pleasant surprise).
TNA may be taking a
gamble by making a man with such weak knees a World Champ, but this
confidence in a company original shows they are one who are more than
up for challenging their nay sayers.
I for one look forward
to seeing were TNA and Sabin take things now.

TNA One Night Only - Joker's Wild Review
TNA One Night Only - Joker's Wild 2013 review
By Phil Allely
His career may have
stalled when he lost the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, but
recent matches have shown James Storm to be a man at the top of his
game. His performance throughout the recent Joker's Wild 'One Night
Only' event proved that too. He stole the show and won the match by
beating his former team mate Bobby Roode in the over the top rope
finale of the show.
The tournament itself
(shown this week in the UK on Challenge) was the second of TNA's new
themed event events. This time around TNA brought back its very
popular Joker's Wild format. Here tag teams were drawn at random and
pitted against another team. The winning teams would then go on to a
(WCW Battlebowl style) battle royal, where the last man standing
would win a $100,000 prize.
Kicking things off
James Storm and Christian York made pretty easy work of the returning
duo of Crimson and Gunner. Storm and York would make a wonderful tag
team in your reviewers opinion.
Jessie Godderz took
most of the punishment in the next bout. Teaming with Mr Anderson
Godderz really looked vulnerable and beaten down by opponents Kid
Kash and Doug Williams. Anderson did however finally get a hot tag
and decimated all to pull off the win.
Former X Division stars
Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe united next to form a formidable
combo. This was the perfect mix of speed and power. The talented
Chavo Guererro and Rob Van Dam worked hard against them, but
ultimately fell to the superior team.
The best part of the
following scrap was Bobby Roode's reaction to his partner Joseph
Park. He made it watchable and helped push the Park character
throughout. After a beat down by Robbie E and Zema Ion Joseph tapped
into Abyss territory and nailed a Black Hole Slam. Roode then
capitalised, making a blind tag and pinning Ion to pull off the win.
With two members of
Aces and Eights on the other side of the ring it seemed to be an
uphill battle for Hernandez and newcomer Alex Silva. Supermex did try
his best, but the might of Devon and DOC proved too much. DOC pinned
Silva to see his team progress.
The final tag team
match of the night was entertaining in more than one way. This saw
big men Matt Mogan and Robbie T square up to Joey Ryan and Al Snow.
This was particularly fun as Morgan/Ryan are of course connected and
Al Snow has beef with them too. The finish came as Snow and T left
Ryan and Morgan to trade blows. After a few exchanges a 'Carbon
Footprint' sealed Ryan and Snows fate.
The shows finale was
the 12 man battle royal for $100,000. James Storm and Bobby Roode
kicked things off and every two minutes a new competitor entered the
fray. Roode and Storm fought each throughout, but did team up to
eliminate DOC (which fans liked a lot). The action here moved along
at a fair rate and the eliminations came thick and fast. It was good
to see Robbie T show his mettle by eliminating a few bodies here. The
same goes for Matt Morgan.
This was all about
James Storm though. He started the match and ended it with his former
tag team partner Bobby Roode. This final sequence was timed
perrfectly. Roode though he had eliminated Storm, but he skinned the
cat and sent Roode to the apron, one 'Last Call' superkick later and
Roode hit the ground. Storm stood victorious and netted himself a
nice pay day too.
Joker's Wild was a very
well received and presented offering by TNA. The idea of theming
events and bypassing storylines seems to be working well. It was also
good to see that the company have re-found their faith in James Storm
too. Here's hoping he gets to rise to the top again and wear the gold
once again.
