Dave Bautista Interview Highlights
Former WWE Superstar turned MMA Fighter Dave Bautista spoke with MMAJunkie after his victory over Vince Lucero Saturday Night. Here are some highlights.
On training with Stephan Bonnar: “I don’t know if [working with me] energized him, but the day he got the call for Anderson Silva, he came to practice the next day, and he beat the living hell out of me. And I think it’s because he put his game face on. It was a different Stephan Bonnar.”
On his performance: “I think Stephan Bonnar is going to be a little disappointed. He called me, and the two things he said was, ‘Keep your hands up and your chin down.’ And I did neither of those things. I think I was so nervous. … I was terrified walking out there.”
On his MMA career so far: “My head coach, Josh Rafferty, said, ‘We’re all so proud of you, you went through a two-month camp, you never bi###ed, you never complained, you showed up for every practice, you never asked for a practice off, you never asked for a round off, and you gave everything you have.’ And that meant more to me than getting my hand raised tonight.”
On Lucero taking the fight on short notice: “You’ve got to respect a guy for that,” Lucero said. “I had nothing to lose, and he had everything to lose, putting his name out there. How can you not respect that?”
On what he hopes to get out of his career: “Nothing. I do it because I love it. I have no ulterior motives. I think it’s obvious after tonight that I won’t be a world champion.”

Goldberg interview highlights
Regarding Bill Goldberg's likely return to the ring and the Rumble in the Jungle II show in Africa's Congo, promotional material for the event lists Goldberg vs. former WWE star Dave Batista at the big show on October 12th at Martyrs Stadium in Kinshasa.
Goldberg apparently said on Twitter that Batista won't be his opponent because Batista is going back to WWE. Batista told The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that he's not on the Congo shows and has no wrestling plans for the near future, "or possibly ever the way WWE is going." Goldberg has not signed a contract at last word.
Batista is currently focusing on his Gracie Gym in Tampa, Florida and waiting to see if potential movie deals work out. The former World Heavyweight Champion also had back surgery a month ago. Batista's back was bothering him to the point his Jiu Jitsu training was suffering.
No other names have been announced for the show but a promotional brochure shows photos of starts like Ric Flair, Kurt Angle, Shelton Benjamin, Luke Gallows, Daivari, Bob Sapp, Ken Shamrock, Chavo Guerrero, Charlie Haas, Paul London, Tom Howard, Nathan Jones, Sylvester Terkay and Roddy Piper. Goldberg's name is also listed as part of the group's management. Word is that the promotion asked Chris Jericho and he turned them down. Celebrities advertised include George Foreman, Jean Claude Van Damme and Leila Ali.
The promotion, USA to Africa Pro Wrestling Mission, also plans to film a documentary including the 20-hour plane ride with background footage of the talents. The documentary would be produced by Donnie Eichar and Brad Tiemmanto, of MTV's The Buried Life. There has been talk of the final show of the tour to be an internet pay-per-view, in addition to a DVD release. There is also talk of the promotion becoming a regular touring group in Africa.

Batista Interview HIghlights
Former World Heavyweight Champion Batista was a guest on F4Wonline.com's Wrestling Observer Radio this week to discuss his time with WWE, MMA, the future and lots more. Here are highlights from the excellent interview:
* Batista said he left WWE because he felt like he didn't fit in anymore. He feels like wrestling is in a bad spot right now and has gone down hill since the whole PG direction. Batista said it leaves a bad taste in his mouth and became too unbelievable & hokey. He added that the things he learned from guys like Triple H and Ric Flair, you couldn't do anymore. He said you couldn't use your tools anymore. Batista said he felt like he became disconnected from the business and became unhappy with it. He still believes in WWE as a company but there wasn't a place for him anymore.
* Regarding his most recent run where some felt it was the best work of his career, Batista said he knew he was leaving and basically did what he wanted to do and eventually it worked. He didn't care about pissing anyone off on the pic and just put his thoughts out there more without worrying about upsetting anyone. He said this started to work so Vince McMahon let him work with it. He recalled one promo before his last WrestleMania in San Jose, California where he let it run how he wanted to do it, ripping on several people. When he got backstage, Vince told him that he went too far with the promo and gave him a good earful.
* The spotlight that he was using before leaving WWE was an idea that Michael Hayes came up with.
* Regarding his departure, Batista gave WWE about 7 months notice that he wanted to finish outright. He wanted to go out the right way and give WWE plenty of notice. That 7 months ended up turning into 9 months because they needed him longer. Batista made it clear that Vince left the door wide open for him to come back. He said he enjoys having that opportunity there to go back, if he wants.
* He had reached out to Strikeforce while with WWE and the MMA promotion expressed interest but he didn't actually sit down with them until he left WWE. His intentions were doing a MMA fight when he first left WWE. At one point he had a 3 fight deal with Strikeforce that would have him do a CBS fight, a Showtime fight and then a pay-per-view fight, all leading to a fight against Bobby Lashley. Batista cited scheduling, his movie work and financial differences, among other things, as to why the deals never worked out. They had another deal almost ready to be signed that would have sent him directly to pay-per-view to fight but his manager Cesar Gracie didn't think everything was fair. Strikeforce was bought by UFC and that was that as far as Batista fighting for Strikeforce goes.
* Batista feels that WWE had a huge missed opportunity with Kennedy, now known as Mr. Anderson in TNA, and was shocked when he was released. He feels WWE could have done more with Ted DiBiase Jr. and knew Kofi Kingston would be a top star when he was in FCW. He also says Sheamus has potential and was one of the smart guys who hooked up with veterans like William Regal to learn more about the business. He added that Sheamus took some crap from people for hooking up with the veterans but it was worth it.
* Regarding Mason Ryan, Batista doesn't think the Nexus star is imitating him and if he was, Batista would be flattered. Batista thinks Ryan is a great guy after meeting him in London and is curious to see where his career goes.
* As far as his future in wrestling goes, Batista does not want to have another full-blown run but would like to return to WWE and officially retire with a small run or something like that. He is also interested in working with WWE in some other capacity. He doesn't want to be a full-time actor and doesn't think he will ever be qualified to be one. He is also looking to continue his MMA training and eventually get a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

It is expected that former WWE star Dave Bautista will make his MMA debut for Strikeforce in the second quarter of 2011. On today's MMA hour talk show with Ariel Helwani, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker said that "there's still dialogue" with Bautista, but they expect him to fight for the company between April and June in 2011.
Bautista, 41, reportedly wants a three-fight deal with Strikeforce and is continually training for his first MMA fight.

Batista News
Former WWE star Batista filmed a low-budget movie in December called House of the Rising Sun that is scheduled for release later this year.
The Animal plays a former crooked cop who now works as a bouncer at a strip club. After the club owner's son is murdered, Batista's character Ray must get to the bottom of everything as he's been set up for the murder.
Batista is also up for a role in a major action movie that's set to star Russell Crowe and MMA fighter Cung Lee.
